On Thursday, January 8, the Kennedy Forum Illinois had the opportunity to learn from Dr. Patrick Corrigan, a leading expert and researcher on the subject of stigma against those with mental health challenges. His presentation is attached. What we learned:
1. Stigma against those with mental health challenges still exists, and in some cases is increasing.
2. Research shows that the most effective strategy in combating stigma is contact. Specifically, when people have contact with other people who are in recovery with whom they can relate. Education and protest is less effective.
