Recommendations on Combating the Opioid Crisis Released
November 10, 2017

We now have clear, actionable steps on how we can combat our nation’s opioid epidemic.

On November 1st, the President’s Opioid Commission released its final report with over 50 recommendations on needed actions to combat the ongoing opioid addiction crisis. The week before, Commission member and former Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy, a founder of The Kennedy Forum, released his recommendations to the President’s Commission.

The Kennedy Forum Illinois sent a letter to Governor Bruce Rauner with recommendations for improving Illinois’ response to the opioid crisis—which killed nearly 1,900 people last year. All of these recommendations highlight the need to enforce mental health and addiction insurance parity as well as increase access to community-based treatment and support and improve screening and identification of mental health and substance use disorders.

Read our letter to Governor Rauner outlining these recommendations below.
