The Kennedy Forum Illinois is partnering with The Chicago Community Trust to encourage community members to engage in small conversations that build relationships and encourage action around mental health to benefit the public good. On the Table brings people together around a common purpose to listen to each other and learn from others’ experiences.

These unprecedented and divisive times continue to challenge every one of us to see the humanity in each other. This year, we are kicking off On the Table on Indigenous Peoples Day as part of Healing Illinois, a racial healing initiative designed to promote dialogue, facilitate learning, encourage collaboration, and seed connections.

Social distancing does not mean emotional isolation. Conversations, whether face-to-face or virtual, make significant impact in educating others and eliminating discrimination. To that end, we have created materials specifically for those who wish to discuss your community’s experiences as it relates to mental health and racial equity. We hope that you will join us again this year.

Why Participate?
Studies show the best way to eliminate stigma is to talk about experiences face-to-face. In previous years, nearly 80% of conversations hosted by The Kennedy Forum included someone with mental health or substance use experience. Participants walk away from these conversations energized to do more. Over half of participants feel more comfortable speaking about mental health and addiction with family members and friends. One in three participants report a change in perspective.

“Thank you for this remarkable opportunity. This was a beautiful and inspiring event that catalyzed some incredible collaborations. This event series is going to make a difference. We are very grateful for your efforts.” -On the Table Participant
